It’s common for cruises to have an elegant evening where you can dress up, have fancy drinks, and celebrate. Celebrations can include anything from the Captain’s Welcome Dinner – which is what we are dressed up for in this blog – to holiday celebrations to themed nights to farewell events. Generally if you are taking a 2 to 5-day cruise, you can expect at least one nice evening to get primmed and proper. If you take a cruise that is six days or longer, expect that be graced with at least two awesome nights of playing dress up.
Formal Night Dress Code
Women should wear… cocktail dresses (like the one I’m wearing in the photo above!). Cruises also allow pantsuits, nice blouses, and fancy skirts. I was surprised to learn that cruise lines invite women to wear evening gowns. 😱 My friend Shannon and I should have just brought our pageant dresses 😅
Men should wear… slacks you would wear to church or a wedding, a dress shirt, and sometimes a sports coat. If you want to get really fancy, you can wear a full-on suit or tuxedo 😎
Different Dress Codes per Cruise Line
Every cruise line has their own dinner dress codes.
I’ve heard that some of them require formal/elegant wear every dinner!
What would you wear to a formal night on a boat? 🚢
lots of virtual hugs 💙
P.S. Enjoy what little photos I was able to get from the night!
